Formula 1 cars are the fastest race machines to lap a circuit. They use the latest technology years before it makes it to road cars and are where a manufacturer really shows what it can do. The 2012 Maclaren F1 car had complicated suspension, electrical systems for helping the driver get past other racers and clever wings to push the car on to the track. Just 20 years earlier, this Jordan 191 car had little more than a steering wheel and a powerful engine. Relying on driver skill rather than electronic aids, the Jordan 191 was still a very fast machine.
Built as the first official race car from Jordan Grand Prix, it also gave a young Michael Schumacher his first laps in an F1 race, when he brought in to replace a driver who had been banned for two races. The car was successful for such a new team, helping Jordan Grand Prix to finish 5th in the constructors championship, beating many teams that had been around for years. Unfortunately, Jordan lost their engine deal with Ford and had to go for a cheaper, less reliable one. The Jordan 191 was not able to recreate it’s early success, but still remain a favourite with F1 fans
